‘Flying with Strings'
Marionettes

(2020)

In late 2019 I was awarded a Develop Your Creative Practice grant by Arts Council England to develop my skills as a woodcarver and puppet maker. These marionettes are the result of that development period, which concluded in summer 2020. The puppets now feature in Flying with Strings, a live puppetry act and a puppet film.
Visit the Flying with Strings page for more information.

You can read more about my creative process for these birds in my old blog:

I have also adapted one of my rod-marionette designs into a series of online puppet carving tutorials. Read more here.

Update May 2023: Marionette Making Has Become An Endangered Craft!

Marionette making has recently been added to the Heritage Craft Association’s red list of endangered crafts.
I am proud to be one of the few remaining professional makers of marionettes in the UK!
